-----Cobalt Gold Dinnerware Pirkenhammer Set Elegant Antique Bavarian Porcelain Dinner Plate Lunch Plate Large Soup Bowl Czechoslavakia
Here is an exquisite set of 3 antique Pirkenhammer cobalt and 24K gold porcelain dinnerware at a price that’s too good to be true. This pattern is unique. Produced in Bavaria (Austria) it features a thin cobalt border with gold designs on the outer edge and smaller gilt on the verge. The cobalt and gilt border, contrasted with the pure white center porcelain, makes for a very striking effect. The backstamp is the expected Pope's miter with two crossed hammers in green underglaze, and there is no country of origin stamped on the back of the plate.
This mark is 1893-1918.
Dinner plate is 9 5/8" diameter.
Smaller plate is 8" diameter
Large bowl is 9 5/8" diameter
Price is for one set of 3 pieces. There are 5 sets existing.
The dinnerware is in very good, antique condition with no obvious utensil marks or wear to the gilded designs.
BRIEF HISTORY: Pirkenhammer of Bavaria (now Austria) was founded in 1803. It morphed from being a maker of simple tableware and pipes to, by 1831, being considered the finest in Bohemia, and was greatly valued for its superior translucency, which rivalled the great manufacturers of Limoges. Throughout the latter half of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century, Pirkenhammer made exquisite porcelain sets and objects for many of the royal houses of Europe, as well as for Pope Benedict XV.
